Diploma of Equine Stud Management is a 2 year program providing students with the skills and knowledge they require in the management of an equine stud enterprise in relation to practical horse management, including breeding strategies, feeding and daily care of horses, horse health and welfare, detection of oestrus and foaling down mares, care of stud stock, as well as business management and pasture/farm/infrastructure management. Students also obtain an Agricultural Chemical Users Permit and learn to establish and maintain an enterprise OHS program.

Career Opportunities
Graduates of the Diploma of Equine Stud Management are likely to find employment in horse breeding establishments, service industries, equine vet hospitals, or as blood stock agents, not only within Victoria but also interstate and internationally.
Entry Requirements
To study the Diploma of Equine Stud Management, applicants should have a minimum of year 12 and/or have a minimum of 3 years work experience in the Horse Breeding Industry.
Duration & Delivery
This is a 2 year full time course beginning with a compulsory 4 week induction workshop. This combines flexible delivery with on the job work placement.
Assessment
Participants are assessed via completion of required tasks and a demonstration of skills, eg. Written and verbal assignments, practical work, classroom participation, projects and/or written tests.
Practical Placement
Students will have the opportunity to complete several placements over the 2 years. These will involve breeding and yearling placements with leading thoroughbred studs in Australia.
Qualification
The Diploma of Equine Stud Management is a nationally recognised qualification.

Recognition of Current Competencies (RCC)
RCC is an assessment process that involves re-assessment of a previously gained accredited qualification that may no longer be recognised by official bodies. If you have an earlier qualification and have current industry experience, the RCC process will involve assessment of your prior qualification against the current qualification and if successful will result in a full or partial upgrade to the current qualification. Contact the teaching department for further advice on RCC or request an information brochure from the Customer Service Centre.
Recognition of Prior Learning (RPL)
RPL is an evidence gathering assessment process where an individual's skills and knowledge in a specific vocational area are assessed against a unit or units of a nationally accredited training package. RPL is specifically for applicants who have skills and knowledge in a vocational area that may enable them to gain part or all of a formal qualification thus recognizing their non-formal and informal prior learning. Contact the teaching department for further advice on RPL or request an information brochure from the Customer Service Centre.
Pathways to Further Study
Graduates of the Diploma will receive credits into the Bachelor of Equine Studies.
