Certificate III in Racing (Trackrider) has been designed to give a sound background of skills and knowledge commonly used in the Horse Racing Industry. This course can be undertaken by traineeship or by flexible delivery for participants who need the qualification to gain their picnic trainers¿ license.

Career Opportunities

Successful completion of this course will enable participants to gain employment opportunities as a senior stablehand or at a foreman level as well as being able to demonstrate their track riding skills.

Entry Requirements

Minimum age 15 years. Applicants must be in good health to be capable of hard physical work.

Duration & Delivery

The course may be completed over 1 to 3 years, depending on the applicant¿s previous experience.

Assessment

Assessment takes place 'on the job' by qualified workplace assessors who have many years experience in the Racing Industry. Evidence of competence is also acquired by the completion of learner guides or by tasks and assignment in an 'online' package. Applicants can choose between the learner guides and the 'online' training.

Qualification

The Certificate III in Racing (Trackrider) is a nationally recognised qualification.

Recognition of Current Competencies (RCC)

RCC is an assessment process that involves re-assessment of a previously gained accredited qualification that may no longer be recognised by official bodies. If you have an earlier qualification and have current industry experience, the RCC process will involve assessment of your prior qualification against the current qualification and if successful will result in a full or partial upgrade to the current qualification. Contact the teaching department for further advice on RCC or request an information brochure from the Customer Service Centre.

Recognition of Prior Learning (RPL)

RPL is an evidence gathering assessment process where an individual's skills and knowledge in a specific vocational area are assessed against a unit or units of a nationally accredited training package. RPL is specifically for applicants who have skills and knowledge in a vocational area that may enable them to gain part or all of a formal qualification thus recognizing their non-formal and informal prior learning. Contact the teaching department for further advice on RPL or request an information brochure from the Customer Service Centre.

Certificate IV in Racing (Thoroughbred Owner Trainer).

Diploma of Racing (Thoroughbred Trainer).
