This course is also suitable for those who have an interest in the horse industry but do not wish to obtain a trainer¿s license.

Career Opportunities
This course allows you to apply for your owner trainer¿s licence. It may also be helpful for people who wish to work in the industry as a Foreman or Assistant Trainer.
Entry Requirements
Minimum age 15 years, but it would be appropriate that someone of that age would do Certificate II and III before attempting Certificate IV level. A genuine interest in horses and their care is essential and experience in handling horses is necessary at this level.
Duration & Delivery
The course is delivered flexibly by either learner guides or `online¿. A series of face to face assessments is also required.
Assessment
Assessments are carried out by qualified workplace assessors who have extensive experience in the Racing Industry. Asessments are conducted via learner guides or 'online' but participants must also be 'on-the-job' assessed to show competence in all units.
Practical Placement
Practical experience is essential in this qualification so if the participant is not working in a racing stable, a mentorship agreement must be entered into, to provide the practical experience.
Qualification
The Certificate IV in Racing (Thoroughbred Owner Trainer) is a nationally recognised qualification.

Recognition of Current Competencies (RCC)
RCC is an assessment process that involves re-assessment of a previously gained accredited qualification that may no longer be recognised by official bodies. If you have an earlier qualification and have current industry experience, the RCC process will involve assessment of your prior qualification against the current qualification and if successful will result in a full or partial upgrade to the current qualification. Contact the teaching department for further advice on RCC or request an information brochure from the Customer Service Centre.
Recognition of Prior Learning (RPL)
RPL is an evidence gathering assessment process where an individual's skills and knowledge in a specific vocational area are assessed against a unit or units of a nationally accredited training package. RPL is specifically for applicants who have skills and knowledge in a vocational area that may enable them to gain part or all of a formal qualification thus recognizing their non-formal and informal prior learning. Contact the teaching department for further advice on RPL or request an information brochure from the Customer Service Centre.
