The NCEE offers the nationally accredited Certificate III in Equine Nursing which is a specialised program intended for veterinary practices that specialise in equine services.
It aims to provide students with advanced vocational education in the underpinning knowledge, practical and technical skills required of an equine nurse. Graduates will be able to carry out equine medical, surgical and anaesthetic nursing as well as equine clinical pathology and radiographic procedures working under minimal supervision.
Students will learn to provide intensive care for foals and horses, clean and maintain an equine facility and implement quality assurance methods and OHS procedures.
Careers
NCEE programs can lead to positions such as
- equine nurse
- stud nurse
- clinical equine nurse
- ambulatory equine nurse
- equine neonatalintensive care nurse
and work in places such as horse breeding establishments, thoroughbred studs, equine service industry, equine vet hospitals, nationally and internationally.

Study Options
This course can be completed part time on campus or via blended delivery in the workplace. Prospective students must be working a veterinary practice specialising in equine services. Veterinary nurses working in general practice may also apply and may be required to undertake a suitable equine-related practical placement. Students who are unable to find suitable employment can enrol in the on-campus Certificate III in Agriculture (Horse Breeding) course which is equivalent to first year.
To gain entry into the second year of the course, students must secure employment within an equine veterinary clinic for a minimum of 15 hours per week. Those who complete their Certificate III Agriculture (Horse Breeding) are able to be employed on larger studs as an Equine Stud Nurse.
