The Diploma of Equine Stud Management provides the skills and knowledge required in the management of an equine stud enterprise in practical horse management, including breeding strategies, feeding and daily care of horses, horse health and welfare, detection of oestrus and foaling down mares, care of stud stock, as well as business management and pasture/farm/infrastructure management.
Students also obtain an Agricultural Chemical Users Permit and learn to establish and maintain an enterprise OHS program.
Graduates of this course are highly sought after by employers with opportunities to work both locally in Australia and to pursue study and career opportunities overseas.
Students undertake excursions and tours of the Victorian and Hunter Valley leading horse studs, and attend the Melbourne Ingliss Horse Sales.
Careers
NCEE programs can lead to positions such as

- blood stock agent
- stud manager
- stallion manager
- broodmare manager
- foaling attendant
- pedigree analyst
- equine transport
and work in places such as horse breeding establishments, thoroughbred studs, equine service industry, equine vet hospitals both nationally and internationally.
Past graduates have successfully gained employment on a national and international scale including Victoria, New South Wales, South Australia, New Zealand, Ireland and Japan.

Study Options
This course can be completed on campus or via distance education. Distance education students learn via a combination of short intensive workshops, workbooks and practical work on stud either through employment or work placement.
On Campus
The course is structured over 2 years full time on campus at the Rural Industries Campus, Wangaratta. The first year is undertaken as Certificate III Agriculture (Horse Breeding).
Distance Education
The program is also delivered part time over three years by flexible delivery. Students learn via a combination of short intensive workshops, workbooks and practical work on stud either through self employment or work placement.

- Manage the care of stud stock
- Develop and implement a breeding strategy
- Establish and maintain the enterprise OHS program
- Develop and implement a marketing plan for stud stock
- Develop and monitor business operations
- Manage personal, team and staff work priorities and development
- Develop, implement and monitor health and welfare strategies for stud stock
- Develop and implement plans for horse nutrition
- Manage agricultural crop production
- Develop a whole farm plan
- Apply chemicals under supervision
- Prepare and apply chemicals
