Strappers prize awarded to

Debbie Wills is the latest winner of the National Centre for Equine Education's strapper prize. Debbie was the strapper for Killas Mate who is trained by Leslie Robertson who is best known as the former trainer of The Mooksta.

Debbie began her racing career 30 years ago working for Alan Browell and has been helping Les for the past seven years. She admits to being a "collector" of retired thoroughbred and has her site firmly set on giving Killas Mate a home when he finishes his racing career.

Incidently, The Mooksta now has a home at Mary and Brett Mallyon's Mangalore Park as a nanny for the weanlings. Mary rang Les when she knew he was being retired and offered him a home as he was Andrew's first winner.

The National Centre for Equine Education is offering a $100 strappers prize to the best presented horse in the feature race at all Wangaratta meetings. This is to show support and highlight the important job of stable hands in the racing industry. The award has attracted much interest and fierce competition with all horses and strappers in the running.
