VET student wins award for equine study

VET in Schools student Chelsea Fisher has received an Australian Vocational Student Prize as recognition for her achievements in Equine studies.

The year 12 student from Numurkah Secondary College was presented with the federal government award by Member for Murray, Dr Sharman Stone on Tuesday 12th December 2006.

Chelsea combined a VCAL course with a Certificate III in Racing (Advanced Stablehand) through the National Centre for Equine Education. She has been working part time at the Goulburn Valley Equine Hospital in Shepparton since September 2006 and plans to continue working in the Equine field.

"It is hard work but I really love it," said Chelsea. "I would like to be able to travel and work in overseas studs in the future," she said. "For the moment I will take a well earned break and think about my options when I come back."

Chelsea's award included a framed certificate and a $2000 cheque for further study. Chelsea was supported at the presentation by her family, school and GOTAFE trainers who are all thrilled with her win.
