Jason wins latest strapper prize

Jason Kurzke is the latest winner of the National Centre For Equine Education's Strappers prize.

Jason strapped the Leon Corsten trained Sir Excellence in the main race of the day. Despite not running in the placings Sir Excellence stood out in the mounting yard for his immaculate presentation.

Jason had put the final polish to his preparation that had started much earlier in the day, with Lee Pritchard and Amy Lee Shadbolt plaiting his mane before he left the stables for his trip to Wangaratta. Jason admitted after he was announced the winner, that he was pretty relieved as the girls were counting on him sharing the $100 winners purse.

Jason told NCEE Racing Coordinator Dona McQueen that he had never even touched a horse before starting work with Leon and that he loves his job and especially loves the long trips to far away race meetings "the further the better".

"Jason is a great example of the opportunities racing gives to young people and his story may inspire others to follow him into the industry," said Ms McQueen.

The National Centre for Equine Education is offering a $100 strappers prize to the best presented horse in the feature race at all Wangaratta meetings. This is to show support and highlight the important job of stable hands in the racing industry. The award has attracted much interest and fierce competition with all horses and strappers in the running.
