Irish National Stud Scholarship Winner
For the past 17 years, the most outstanding Horse Breeding student has been selected to study at the Irish National Stud, in Kildare. The winner is chosen on the basis of academic achievement, practical skill development, contribution and passion for the industry and outstanding work ethic. Applicants are selected from the graduating year of the Diploma of Equine Stud Management course, and are interviewed by an independent panel of industry and academic representatives.
The winner of this year's Irish National Stud Scholarship is Courtney Horwood from Nagambie. Courtney said she was thrilled to get the award and would be looking forward to heading over to Ireland in January 2010. Courtney undertook the Diploma of Equine Stud Management at the NCEE on a part time basis, while working within the Breeding Industry.
This year, the NCEE are very fortunate to have a new sponsor for the Irish National Stud scholarship, Mr Adam Sangster from Swettenham Stud, Nagambie, who has dedicated the award to the memory of his late father, Mr Robert Sangster.
"My father would have wanted our sponsorship to go towards encouraging young people in the breeding and racing industries to gain qualifications and training," said Adam Sangster.
"The NCEE and North East Thoroughbreds (NET) work closely on developing the industry in the north east corridor of Victoria and with Swettenham Stud being located in Nagambie it was a natural fit for us to be involved in this scholarship."
"Swettenham Stud is very proud to be sponsoring the INS scholarship and providing an opportunity for a talented young person to enhance their career overseas," said Mr Sangster.
NCEE Acting Manager, Celia Turnbull says "this generosity and commitment displays Mr Sangster's high level of support for education within the Thoroughbred Breeding Industry.
"The scholarship is an exceptional opportunity for the brightest new industry workers to gain invaluable skills and experiences during six months study at the most prestigious horse breeding school in the world and covers airfares, accommodation and tuition".
