The NCEE has developed the exciting new Diploma of Equine Performance Management.
This Nationally Accredited Diploma has been written with extensive input from industry to provide up to date vocational training for the performance horse sector.
Students will learn all aspects of managing performance horses and equine business including understanding equine behaviour, nutrition, exercise physiology, education of young stock, horse health and general care, as well as business, facilities and staff management.
Students have the options of elective choices to develop skills in:
- performance horse training
- performance horse competing
- horse education and re-training
- bloodstock agency and sales preparation
- equine events management
- equine facilities management
Careers
NCEE programs can lead to positions such as
- stable manager
- equine small business manager
- equestrian/agistment centre manager
- professional rider & competitor
- bloodstock agent
- horse educator/trainer/breaker groom
- marketing & public relations
- events management
and work in places such as equestrian centres, riding schools, self employment, equine service industry, nationally and internationally.
Entry requirements
Prospective students must have a moderate level of physical stamina, strength, agility and coordination in order to meet the physical demands and be safe when handling horses and performing stable management duties. In addition, a range of skills are required in writing, reading, speaking and calculating. Students will need to have access to the internet and computers to complete the course..
Study Options
Underpinning knowledge is delivered through a combination of online resources and textbooks. Practical training is undertaken through 80 hours of practical placement in a suitable equine workplace during the 12 months. Students with a high level of equine experience can apply for Skills Recognition.
Course content
- Establish and maintain the enterprise OHS program
- Apply first aid
- Develop and implement plans for horse nutrition
- Implement and monitor equine health and welfare strategies
- Apply anatomy & physiology to equine management and training
- Interpret equine behaviour
- Manage domestic & international equine transport
- Develop and monitor business operations
- Undertake marketing activities
- Manage personal team and staff work priorities
- Implement an equine facility maintenance, improvement & management program
Choose a minimum of 2 electives from this list
- Implement equine training programs
- Demonstrate advanced riding/driving skills
- Demonstrate personal horse riding or driving skills for competition situations
- Start horses under saddle or harness
- Manage the re-education of horses
- Manage development & presentation of young horses
- Analyse equine pedigrees
- Provide on site event management services
- Obtain and manage sponsorship
- Develop a whole farm plan
