PROFILE - Ian Horwood
Horse Breeding Stud Manager
Ian Horwood is a well known name in the Horse Racing industry, having previously been the Stud Manager at Collingrove Stud for 11 years.
Ian joined the NCEE as Stud Manager, bringing with him a lifetime of equine knowledge and experience to pass on to those in the early days of their equine careers.
Ian has a wide understanding of the industry, having started his career as a stablehand and track work rider in the mid 70s.
Working his way up to become an A class trainer in Adelaide, he then became a stud foreman caring for 11 stallions and 600 mares at Lindsay Park Stud. He also broke in 250 yearlings annually and pre-trained around 50 racehorses during this time.
Whilst Stud Manager for Colin Hayes' and Robert Sangster's Collingrove Stud, Ian converted the 800 acre cattle farm into an international standard thoroughbred breeding stud. He managed up to 650 mares and seven stallions and was responsible for the foaling down of 250 mares annually.
