Alison Pozzobon

Certificate II in Equine Industry

Alison Pozzobon is a Year 12 student at McGuire College in Shepparton and undertook the Certificate II in Equine Industry during Years 10 and 11. Last year Alison was awarded a 2007 Careers Connection VET in Schools Excellence Award for the Equine sector.

Alison has a passion for horses and animals and ensured she completed lots of work placements to gain experience in both fields. She enjoys riding and training horses and could be found at the Shepparton Equestrian Centre before and after school most days of the week. Even though Alison didn't own a horse during the Certificate course it wasn't a disadvantage.

"The workbooks and online information from the NCEE were well structured and made the course interesting to do," says Alison. "The teachers were always available if I had a question and my practical assessor, Toni Gough, was fantastic in allowing me access to the facilities and horses."

Alison is concentrating on completing her VCE studies but already plans to go on to the double certificate program in Animal Studies and Companion Animals at GOTAFE then the Certificate III in Veterinary Nursing. "It's great that one course leads into another, and it makes it easier that I've been able to start my career training while still at school. I’d recommend to any secondary student interested in the equine industry to do the course."
