Emma Klug
Emma Klug had already completed the Diploma of Horse Studies (Breeding) through the NCEE when she decided to follow her keen interest in veterinary practices and study for an Equine Nursing certificate.
"I loved helping the visiting vets when I was working at Lindsay Park Stud and thought completing an equine nursing course would broaden my experiences and provide further employment opportunities," said Emma.
After 12 months in the course Emma gained a position at the well known Goulburn Valley Equine Hospital in Shepparton, under equine vet Jim Vasey, to put into practice the things she was learning at the NCEE.
Emma studies the course part time with one day a fortnight at the Wangaratta Campus followed up with self paced workbook activities and workplace assessments the rest of the time. "Our case load at the equine hospital is high so I am learning heaps at work and the flexible study mode suits my work situation," she said.
"The teachers are fantastic, they all have equine experience so they know exactly what our work environment is like and understand the equine industry."
Most of Emma’s patients are race horses or standard breds and her job includes assisting with surgery, bone scans for stress fractures and x-rays of yearlings. "I grew up with performance horses on stud farms and racing stables so I love working in this environment."
