Jodie Lawes
Certificate II in Racing (Stablehand)
Jodie has a life long love of horses and left school after Year 10 to take up a traineeship with Carringbush Park on the Mornington Peninsula. It meant leaving home and moving half way across Victoria but Jodie was keen to pursue a career in the equine industry.
Jodie had volunteered with Riding for the Disabled in Horsham and with elderly people after completing a Certificate II in Health and Community Care before starting her traineeship.
"I like learning while I am working, it's easier to take things in that way, and the content is very relevant to the work I am doing. I'm having fun and I find the informal learning style much less stressful than being at secondary school."
"I like working with animals and plan to stay in the racing field to learn as much as I can." Jodie's trainer Rod Kent says she is a model student who absorbs and retains information and has an excellent understanding of the racing sector.
