Morgan Bailey

Diploma of Horse Studies (Breeding)

(Now the Diploma of Equine Stud Management)

Moving from the city to the country to study is the reverse of the usual trend but if you want a career in the equine industry it is often the best place to start. Morgan Bailey believes “If you want to learn about the horse industry, you have to go where it all happens.

Morgan decided to act on her passion of working with horses and after attending Equitana in 2002 she left knowing that GOTAFE’s Christensen Lane Campus was the place to start.

Morgan enrolled in the horse breeding diploma and was thrilled with the practical skills and theory she was learning. “Before I enrolled in the GOTAFE course I knew very little about horse handling,” commented Morgan. “The course gave me very sound knowledge of thoroughbred breeding and practical farm work.”

Placements also built on Morgan’s knowledge and expanded her horse handling experience. “The three practical placements that were assigned to me were a great experience,” says Morgan. “I walked away from the course feeling I had made friends for life thanks to the friendly, close, nurturing environment of Christensen Lane.”

Morgan was the winner of the 2005 Irish National Stud Scholarship, an experience she says consolidated her career path. “My mind is set on becoming a manager of a foaling/intensive care unit on a thoroughbred stud.”

Morgan plans to do an Equine Veterinary Nursing course to increase her skills. “Working with newborn foals and intensive care patients is very rewarding, you know you have helped them through their first few steps of life. It’s a very satisfying feeling.”
