Patrick Starr

Diploma of Racing (Thoroughbred Trainer)

From the age of six Pat was at riding school, and in Pony Club and eventing. He worked for his first racing stables in 2000 and reels off names such as John Size, Gai Waterhouse, John Hawkes and Graham Rogerson as former employers.

After eight years working with leading trainers Pat was ready for the next step. "I knew I could only progress in the industry if I set myself up as a trainer," says Pat.

"I did the NCEE Diploma flexibly and with recognition of prior learning completed the course in five months instead of 12. Being practically based it was easy to understand and relevant to my work."

Pat says he loves the thrill of preparing a horse for running. "I picked up an injured horse and in his third start he was a winner at Moonee Valley. It's a dream of mine to go as far as I can in the racing industry, to have my own stables. The training with the NCEE has put me in good stead to achieve this. It's the one industry where you can start with nothing and achieve the greatest rewards."
