Choosing to study the Diploma of Horse Studies (Breeding) at Goulburn Ovens TAFE’s Wangaratta campus was a decision that has driven Stacie’s career and continually opens new doors for her.

Stacie says the two years spent at the Campus was “one of the most rewarding experiences of my life.”

“The education offered from the lecturers and follow up encouragement is second to none. The family-like atmosphere amongst students and educators makes it all the more worthwhile and exciting and provides you with industry contacts and friends for life,” said Stacie.

“Goulburn Ovens TAFE is well known in the equine industry throughout Australia and also in key thoroughbred nurseries throughout the world,” says Stacie.

“The reputation of the course and the quality turnout of its graduated students has only grown - year in, year out. Students are in high demand within the industry and find it very easy to gain credible employment.”

This versatile course covers every facet of the equine breeding world, from basic horsemanship skills through to foaling mares, stallion handling and business management. Graduated students can be found throughout the world in all sorts of highly regarded positions.

Stacie graduated in 2004, winning the Dux of Class Scholarship to study at the Irish National Stud. Speaking about her work Stacie says, “Traveling to Ireland and being given the opportunity to study alongside 25 other students from all corners of the earth was an amazing experience and I was proud to be representing not only Goulburn Ovens TAFE but also Australia.”

Stacie is currently the assistant stud groom of a successful stud situated on the Curragh, County Kildare Ireland. She has had the opportunity to travel to England and France to present yearlings for sale, attend stallion open days at all major breeding farms throughout Ireland and work closely with Bloodstock Agents.

She says her next move will most likely be to Kentucky, USA. “All of this has only become possible thanks to the quality education and brilliant reputation of Goulburn Ovens TAFE,” says Stacie.

If a career in the equine industry, particularly in the ever growing thoroughbred industry is your career goal then don’t overlook Goulburn Ovens TAFE.
